Jeremy 's Story
Based in Western Australia, Jeremy Brown is an experienced native title lawyer with over a decade of practice dedicated to delivering positive and practical outcomes for Aboriginal groups and corporations. As the former Deputy Principal Lawyer at Native Title Services Goldfields, Jeremy led a team of senior and junior lawyers, overseeing complex claims, negotiations and Federal Court proceedings.
Jeremy has played a key role in progressing several major claims to consent determinations, including the Nyalpa Pirniku claim (2023) and the Ngadju Mia Wamu and Tjalkadjara determinations. His work is marked by a clear commitment to achieving lasting agreements that respect native title rights while navigating the realities of negotiation with governments and resource companies.
In addition to his leadership roles, Jeremy contributes to the LexisNexis Native Title Service, where he provides case notes and commentary on developments in native title law, currently undertaking a rewrite of the Native Title Act commentary.
Earlier in his career at Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation, Jeremy advised on multiple consent determinations, major resource agreements and the landmark Yamatji Nation settlement. His experience spans claim representation, Prescribed Body Corporate governance, and negotiating agreements with mining and petroleum companies.
With strong advocacy, drafting and negotiation skills, Jeremy is known for his professional but approachable style. He understands the pressures faced by Applicants of claims and directors of native title organisations and works collaboratively to provide practical, culturally respectful and legally sound solutions.
Outside of the legal profession, Jeremy has a longstanding interest in politics, including as running as a candidate for the Australian Labor Party in the 2010 Federal Election. Jeremy was also the inaugural chairperson of Relay for Life at the University of Western Australia in 2010 and 2011, fundraising over $200,000 for the Cancer Council of Western Australia.
Jeremy regularly plays soccer and has previously played cricket and futsal. He has also played violin for over thirty years, having taught and played in several orchestras and string groups in the past.
