Georgina's Story

Georgina Reid is a Partner at MPS Law with 28 years’ experience in native title and Indigenous land matters across Australia. Known for her respectful, outcome-focused approach, Georgina is trusted by traditional owners, governments, proponents and colleagues alike to navigate complex native title issues and deliver enduring agreements.

Over her career, Georgina has played a leading role in resolving more than 15 native title claims by consent determination and has successfully negotiated compensation settlements in over six claims in South Australia. She has led successful negotiations on behalf of native title holders to achieve recognition of native title, including the Mitakoodi and Mayi People in Central Queensland and traditional owners across the Torres Strait.

Georgina also led the South Australian Government’s negotiations to resolve native title and compensation claims by consent—work that resulted in some of the State’s most comprehensive settlements. She has negotiated co-management agreements for national parks and Indigenous Land Use Agreements for key infrastructure projects, always with a focus on durable, respectful partnerships.

Recognised by her peers and the profession, Georgina is a finalist for the 2025 Native Title Partner of the Year Awards and was named among Australia’s Leading Native Title Lawyers (Traditional Owner Representation) in both 2024 and 2025. She was also a finalist in the Law Society of South Australia Justice Award in 2024 and winner in 2025. In 2026, she was listed in the Chambers and Partners Guide for her native title expertise.

Georgina brings deep legal experience and practical insight to her clients. Her previous roles include Special Counsel at MPS Law, Executive Solicitor for Native Title in the South Australian Attorney-General’s Department, Principal Legal Officer at the Torres Strait Regional Authority, and early commercial practice at Johnston Withers & Associates.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Adelaide and a Certificate in Leadership from the South Australian Government Leadership Academy. She has also undertaken training in mediation and negotiation.

Georgina is committed to community and First Nations self-determination. She was a founding member of the Indigenous Issues Committee of the Law Society of South Australia and as a junior lawyer served on the management committee of the Women’s Legal Service of South Australia.
Clients who work with Georgina value her ability to deliver clear advice, solve complex problems, and achieve results with integrity and respect.

Georgina is the proud mother of two boys and has held numerous volunteer and management committee roles at local sporting clubs and early education and community childcare centres. When she is not working she enjoys being outdoors, cycling, camping, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
