Anna Matthews is a lawyer who works alongside Traditional Owners to achieve practical, meaningful outcomes in Native Title and Cultural Heritage matters. She is committed to building trusted relationships with clients through transparency, respect and collaboration, recognising that every matter is underpinned by the aspirations of the people and communities she represents.

Anna has more than four years’ experience supporting Traditional Owners, including almost two years as a Paralegal before progressing to a Lawyer with Queensland South Native Title Services (QSNTS). During her time at QSNTS, she advised and represented clients across a broad range of Native Title and Cultural Heritage matters, including Future Act negotiations, Section 31 Deeds, Ancillary Agreements, Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and Native Title claims.

She has extensive experience negotiating agreements that deliver meaningful protections and practical commercial outcomes for Native Title Holders while supporting clients to navigate complex legal and governance issues in both the pre- and post-determination environment. Anna has also participated in mediations involving Indigenous respondents and government entities, working collaboratively to achieve outcomes that align with her clients’ priorities and long-term aspirations.

Anna believes that successful legal outcomes begin with strong relationships. She takes the time to understand each client’s objectives and works closely with them to develop strategies that support self-determination, protect cultural interests, and create lasting benefits for current and future generations.

Before joining QSNTS, Anna worked as a Law Clerk with McInnes Wilson Lawyers, where she further developed her legal research, drafting and client service skills.

Anna holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Journalism from the Queensland University of Technology, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law. She is committed to continual professional development and has undertaken further training in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid, Core Cultural Learning, and trauma-informed practice, reflecting her commitment to providing culturally informed and client-centred legal services.
